Lee Stevenson Books? Empty
PostSubject: Lee Stevenson Books?   Lee Stevenson Books? EmptyTue Sep 28, 2021 1:02 am

Hello,
New member here doing some research on Rorke's Drift - specifically the Hospital fight. I have been looking for two books by Lee Stevenson:

1. Rorke's Drift Doctor
2. Rorke's Drift In Their Own Words

Both appear to have been self published but can't be found anywhere on the secondary market. Any leads on these?

I understand that the Rorke's Drift Doctor has an appendix (IV) on the patients in the hospital. I am trying to understand what our best understanding is of who remained in the hospital as patients vs being well enough to shoulder a rifle and man the outer defenses. I have a good map of most but for example who were the 2 other patients that fled through the mouse holes with Pte. John Williams?

Also - hoping the second title can clarify a issue in the recent books I have consulted. Trying to determine the path of Pte. Waters 1/24th and Pte. Beckett 1/24th. Older studies suggest that they migrated to the back of the hospital and left through the same window as the other escapees. The latest book I read, Neil Thornton's Rorke's Drift a New Perspective, show's Water and Becket migrating to one of the small rooms on the veranda and then escaping over the mealie bag wall to hide in the garden. "Like Wolves to the Fold" also subscribes to this path. I know that Waters has a published account but have been unable to locate it.

Is there a link or source on line with all of the accounts available?

Thanks in advance for the guidance.

Hi Henry Martini
the books you mention won't be cheap , the last copy of the ' RD Doctor ' I sold was 130 GBP's which did include postage , the other ' Rorke's Drift By Those Who Were There ' would be a little more , it's basically impossible to find due to the fact there were only 500 or so printed ?? . Nothing online as far as I'm aware . Waters account was published 13th June 1879 in the Cambrian Newspaper , this information from Vol 4 Legacy ; Heroes of RD... by Kris Wheatley , also difficult to find .

Hi, I have a copy of 'by those who were there' which you are welcome to borrow, depending on geographical logistics of course.
