Fred served aboard HMS Boadicea from April 1878 to April 1882 as Domestic Class 2, as such he witnessed the entire Zulu campaign but only as shore party. His medals are here but the 1914/15 star and victory medal are missing (Repro's in the photo), I am trying to locate them, assuming they still survive, so if anyone is aware of them then can they plase let me know.
Fred was a great uncle and son to Cpl John Montague RM, John served from July 1826 to August 1847 and was present at the bombardment of St Jean D'Acre.

OC1,
Welcome to the forum. Congratulations on having 4 of Frederick Montague’s actual medals. I wish you good luck in tracking down and obtaining the other 2.
The 1881 census for HMS Boadicea lists Frederick Montague as a single, 27 year old, Engineer’s Cook. (An Engineer’s Cook was a Domestic 2nd Class.) Aboard “Boadicea” were 1 Chief Engineer, 2 Engineers and 3 Assistant Engineers for whom Frederick prepared their daily meals.
Do you have a photograph of Frederick that you are willing to share? Also, do you know when he died and where he was buried?
Tom

Hi Tom!
Sadly I don't have any photos of Fred at all, the nearest we have is for his sister, Alice Louisa Montague (1864 - 1956) and she died in Southsea, Portsmouth. Fred's elder brother, John Thomas Montague, moved to Wandsworth in London and the earliest photos date from 1927 and for Leslie William Montague RN.
Frederick Charles Montague was married to Jessie Maria Neville (Nee Chivers) but never had any children and Fred died in June 1947.
I'm glad you have asked about where he is buried as I have not tracked that down so a good time to find out if there is a visible grave marker surviving, I think I know where it might be so will check on that asap.
Paul
