Given the connexion between David Niven and William Degacher, I wonder how many of you knew that Coghill's nephew, Sir Joscelyn Coghill, ultimately the 7th Baronet, was also an actor. He played Lieut.-Col. Douglas in the The Charge of the Light Brigade 1969 and the Museum Curator in M.R. James's horror The Stalls of Barchester in 1971 as well as several other roles and small parts in quite well-known films.

Did he work with Frank in The Charge of the Light Brigade?
Acted under the name of Ambrose Coghill, attended Haileybury College, as did his uncle, and was commissioned in to the South Wales Borderers.
When I saw the subject matter I thought that you were discussing Nevill Coghill the Chaucer expert. Who adapted Doctor Faustus for the big screen, and The Canterbury Tales for the small screen. Ambrose appeared in both productions.
John Yes, Nevill did indeed do those things and much more and he was Josecelyn's brother. Ambrose was Joscelyn's middle (and stage) name. Frank in The Charge of the Light Brigade??? I expect he was just horsing around...

Coincidence - within a mile of mine a Hook descendant and within 5 miles a Williams (Fielding) descendant, and (used to be at any rate) a Coghill descendant.
