IT'S MEANT FOR ME. Majuba Hero and a Police Photograph. " I'm an old soldier of the 94th. 1 fought in the Zulu war and I got wounded at Majuba," said John Clarke (63), when charged at Aldershot yesterday with stealing a coat. "Sure I'd not be stalin' a coat when I've £5O in the bank," he replied. Magistrate: "Where's your bank book?"
"-och! I'm a ship's foierman now, and I lav the book wid my sister's daughter in case 1 should be drowned at sea."
"Where is she":—ln Tipperary.
" Tipperary is a bit too far for us to go," said the magistrate.
Prisoner was shown a Scotland Yard portrait of himself with a list of eleven convictions below. "Why, it's meant for me," he ejaculated, "so I'll not contest the convictions! " He was sentenced to three months' hard labour.

Sheffield Daily Telegraph - Wednesday 25 August 1920

He may have been telling the truth about being in the Zulu War. There is a J. Clarke in the 94th p330 in Duttons 1879 clasp number 65B/1995
