I can't find any trace of a Hoare in the 24th scratch

William Jones Hoare born and died in Gloucester 1858/59-1 Dec 1828. Married 1896 Annie Lawrence in Gloucester. No Military.

The Western Daily Press - 07/12/1928 gives a little more detail on this individual. It says he 'enlisted under the name Jones'.

The 1911 Census gives a place of birth as Peterstow(e), Herefordshire and a birth year of 1860. His occupation of Commissaire and address 15 Linden Road match the newspaper article. He is still married to Annie.
The 1901 Census gives occupation as Steward at the Conservative Club
The 1891 Census provides an address of 69 Brookway, he is a nephew to the head of the household and his occupation is given as pensioner South Wales Borderers.
With the information above I believe the individual to be No. 2211 William Jones, enlisted 29/03/1879, joined at Brecon 02/04/1879.
The birthplace for the above is Peterstowe, age is consistent with reports and he was discharged in 1890 with 'chronic ulcer'.
He does appear to have a medal entitlement for the IGSM for Burmah with clasp 1885-87, but most certainly did not serve during the 1879 campaign.
