He arrived in Cape town on 13th June 1878 and posted to King William’s Town: Served during operations against the Zulu 1879, with Natal Native Contingent and No 3 column (see Lieutenant Harford’s Journal): Arrived Helpmakaar 24th January 1879: Was in charge of sick and wounded between Helpmakaar & Ladysmith: Later served with 2nd Division: Medal with clasp 1878-9 and Order of Osmanieh, Turkish.
