Lt and Adj Garstin 57th Regt saw a bit of the war , with the Regt throughout the war present at Gingindlovhu and the relief of Eshowe ,
the advance of Crealock's Column to Port Dunford and the subsequent operations with Clarke's Column ( M&S)

Hi All,
Alfred Allan Garstin 57th born 30 Aog 1850 Edinburgh, ensign 23 Sept 1871, Adjutant 57th during Zulu War 1 May 1878 to 11 Aug 1880, served Zulu at Gingin, Soudan at Suakin on staff, WW1 with Lancs Fus as Colonel. He married in later life to Isabel Lee she was born on 28 May 1874 in France. They appear on the 1911 census in Chelsea. He dies March Qtr 1937 at his home Ashworth Austen Rd, Guildford Surrey. Isabel appears at the Ashworth address in the 1939 population list, and dies at the same address on 17 March 1950.
