Inspection by Earl Roberts Empty
PostSubject: Inspection by Earl Roberts   Inspection by Earl Roberts EmptyWed Aug 31, 2022 4:50 pm

Probably one for Julian Whybra, with no intention to re-light a fire.

I was wondering if Julian or anyone else had seen this before, in relation to David Jenkins RD defender.

The Cambrian Friday September 1st 1905..

The article headlines: Swansea's Veterans Inspection by Earl Roberts at Pontardulais.
Bob's chats with old veterans.
Tribute to Swansea's Organisation.

In the article all veterans present are listed by name and battle honour. D Jenkins is listed as D Jenkins (Zulu). The article explains proceedings and goes on to say:
There was no man present who had actually accompanied Bob's in the Kabul march, but Bombardier F Bishop (Royal Artillery) was besieged in Candahar for 33days, being made Sergeant in the field. Another veteran present Pte G.R.N. Lloyd, was in the 9th Lancers , Earl Roberts old Regiment.
Though Bob's was not in the Zulu war, a noticeable figure was that of veteran David Jenkins. Said to be the only surviver of Rorke's Drift.
(I think he implies present amongst the veterans)

The article goes on to say: He had a chat with all of them, and was particularly chatty with veterans Richards, Bishop and Jenkins .

He obviously did claim to be a defender at Rorke's Drift.

Maybe this has been highlighted before, so I apologise if it has.
