Hi All,
Charles Coventry 17 Lcrs Zulu War, was born 18 Dec 1850 in Newbridge Ireland, to Charles Coventry Snr Pvt 17th REgt. At the age of 9 he was put into the Royal Military Asylum [school], he was returned to his mother age 14 in 1864. He enlisted 21 May 1869 age 18, to 17 Lcrs, was promoted to Sub-Lt 29 Sept 1880, Lt 1 July 1881, and Captain 15 Jan 1888 all by selection [this term i have not heard before] to S Africa 25 Feb 1879, India 8 Oct 1879 to UK 3 Nov 1890. He Married Catherine after 1890. Can't find the result of the Court Case.
He died at 236 Court Lane, Erdington, Birmingham, on 5 Feb 1929.

The term "by selection" probably refers to field promotion, due to loses.
