William Ashton (actual number 1-24/225) discharged to pension at Gosport 16/03/1880 was with B Company 1/24th at St. John's River for the Zulu campaign. Somewhat of a rush to get back to S.A. and serve two months in prison prior to the above article? No promotion to Corporal ever listed.
James Ashton (2-24/913) Rorke's Drift Defender, was with the 3/60th Regt to the end of February 1880 then on payment with the 25th Bde Depot from 1st March 1880. Not sure exactly when he left South Africa but was still with the Depot in 1881
