Dave Wouldnt think it would be Blood River. That was fought from behind a waagon lager and later on horseback. Most of the Boer/Zulu fights were from a Lager. A possibility is that its not a Zulu force but rather Shona, looking at the head gear, in which case it would be in the Northern Transvaal or Rhodesia area. Regards

Thank Springbok.
I really don't know. I was going by the type of sheilds which I thought were only used by the zulu.

Dave The Matabiele from Rhodesia were originally a Zulu tribe could be something like that. Seem to recall Rhodes sent a flying column up to the area composed of Boer and ex miners from the Transvaal. Could easily be a depiction of that. Maybe even a bunch of Chelsea supporters celebrating a win????????

Dave. Traditional Zulus from Rhodesia. Notice the headdress and shields. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The weapons being used by the europeans look like flintlocks so it may be Blood River, but their dress is later

hi all. I dont think it is from any battle , It seems plenty of artistic license was used to paint a picture showing what it may be like when you confront african warriors in a battle situation. cheers 90th.
ps. Forgot to add , going by the picture the battle would have been over very shortly in regard to the flintlocks used , it seems by a native contingent.
