We are all here to communicate and enjoy the various discussions and information on the Anglo Zulu War of 1879. Opinions will vary, you will agree and disagree with one another, we will have debates, and so it goes.

| "Colonel Samuel George Huskisson born August 1837; Commissioned Ensign, 80th (Staffordshire Volunteers) Regiment, May 1855; served during the Indian Mutiny in the Campaign in Oude, 1858-59, including the capture of Simree Fort, Bera, and Doondeakeira; Lieutenant and Adjutant, January 1859; served as Adjutant of the Regiment during the Bhootan Campaign, 1865-66; Major, January 1872; Appointed Aide-de-Camp to the General Officer Commanding, China, May 1875; served with the force under Major General Colborne against the Malays in Perak 1875-76 as acting Deputy Assistant Quarter Master General, and was present at the capture of Kinta (Mentioned in Despatches, Brevet of Major); served in the Zulu War 1879; Appointed Assistant Military Secretary, China, January 1880; transferred to the Middlesex Regiment, February 1881; Lieutenant-Colonel, June 1884; Appointed Commanding Officer, 1st Battalion, Middlesex Regiment, May 1885; retired with the rank of Colonel, June 1888." | hi all . Some more details on Huskisson . He was born in Ceylon . Age upon entering service 17 yrs 9 mths . Hythe School of Musketry 1st Class Certificate 1866 . Retired July 4th 1888 , commission by purchase .
Periods of Employment . Home May 15th - July 31st 1856. Cape Of Good Hope Aug 1st 1856 - Sept 15th 1857. East Indies Sept 16th 1857 - April 8th 1866. Home April 9th 1866 - Jan 11th 1872 . Strait Settlements Jan 12th 1872 - Nov 27th 1872. China ( Hong Kong ) Nov 28th 1872 - April 18th 1879. South Africa April 19th 1879 - Sept 18th 1879. Home Sept 19th 1879 - Nov 18th 1879. Hong Kong Nov 19th 1879 - May 16th 1881 Home May 17th 1881 - Sept 9th 1884 East Indies Sept 10th 1884 - Sept 24th 1885 Home Sept 25th - 1885 - July 3rd 1888.
Indian General Service Medal with Clasp ' Bhootan ' , Indian Mutiny Medal , South Africa War Medal No Clasp . Huskisson could speak French . He married Mary Ann Humphrys on the 27th May 1871 at Belfast . They had 3 children , Eleanor Eva b 8th March 1872 , baptised at Singapore , Strait Settlements . William Gordon b 23rd Dec 1877 , baptised at Hong Kong . Muriel Mary b 24th Feb 1877 , baptised St. Peter's Port Guernsey. cheers 90th. |
