PostSubject: Re: Lieutenant A.E.Miles 2nd Batt. Kings Royal Rifles   Lieutenant A.E.Miles 2nd Batt. Kings Royal Rifles EmptyFri Jan 22, 2021 9:22 pm

"3 officers and 29 other ranks of the 2nd King’s Royal Rifle Corps served on the Nile in the Mounted Infantry Camel Regiment, of whom all three officers and 25 other ranks fought at Abu Klea. The 3/60th were the innovators in the British Army of mounted infantry, which first saw action during the Zulu war of 1879.

Archibald Edward Miles was gazetted a Sub Lieutenant in the King’s Royal Rifle Corps on 11 February 1875, becoming Lieutenant in the 3rd Battalion in February 1876. He served with the 3/60th in the Zulu war from April to September 1879, and also in the Boer war in 1881. He was promoted to Captain in the 2nd Battalion in January 1885 and served with the 2/60th in the Nile Expedition in 1884-85 with the Mounted Infantry Camel Corps, and was present in the actions at Abu Klea and Gubat, where he was wounded. He joined the Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry as a Lieutenant in April 1890, with gratuity from the King’s Royal Rifle Corps, becoming Captain in November 1895, and Major in November 1897."
