Captain Morris was appointed instructor of musketry 29th April 1874 - 28th September 1877.
He served in the Zulu War with his Regiment, landing at Natal 13th December 1878 - 7th Feburary 1880 being based at Luneberg and serving at times with the Mounted section of the 2/4th Regt. In May 1879 Moore and Commandant Schermbrucker were attacked by a large force of Zulu’s during a reconnaissance, Moore’s horse was shot from under him and they barley escaped with their lives. This episode was recounted in ‘the Graphic’. From 14th September 1879 - 26th December 1879 he was appointed Special Service Officer on the Boundary Commission.
