| Mr Peter David Lane, , was admitted to the Doncaster Royal Infirmary on 23rd March suffering fom Pneumonia. Peter passed peacefully away in the early hours of Friday 25th March, 2011. His son Rob, and daughter Kate were at his bedside. Both Peter and Roger Lane were well known in the Anglo Zulu War community, and attended many of the rededications to other defenders. I'm sure they will both be greatly missed. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Our thoughts are with his familey and friends. A great loss to all.

| My thoughts are with his family. No doubt he had many friends within the AZW circle. A very sad loss. |

| [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]26th April 2005 Service of dedication to Sgt. Gallagher. "Saturday the 23rd. April there was a service dedicate a new stone on the grave of Rorke's Drift defender Sgt. Henry E. Gallagher MSM. The service was conducted by Revd. Paul Norton with talks given by Roger Lane (great grandson), Councillor Cyril Hilton, Ian Knight and Adrian Greaves. There was also a reading from psalm 46. The ceremony was attended by HRH Prince Shange (a descendant of Prince Dabulamanzi), Dr. Paul Matewele (a descendant of King Cetshwayo) and HRH Princess Zinka. Also present were other defenders' descendants. Sandra Barker (Hitch), Colin Fielding (John Williams) both of whom laid wreaths, Tony Jones (William Jones) and Peter Lane (Sgt. Gallagher). There was a display of Zulu War material in the church. The graveside dedication was attended by the Diehards who performed in their usual excellent style, accompanied by bugler Tony Crisp. Refreshments at the pub afterwards were a good opportunity to meet up with others who are frequent visitors to this site, including Lee Stevenson". Source: RDVC. |

| Its the one's that are left behind.
Psalm 46 as read at the Service of dedication to Sgt. Gallagher.
"God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though its waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High. God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God shall help her, just at the break of dawn. The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved; He uttered His voice, the earth melted.
The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah
Come, behold the works of the Lord, Who has made desolations in the earth. He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two; He burns the chariot in the fire.
Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!
The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah" |
