Hi Tasker

90th is correct, they were with Rowlands reserve column.

Raised 1855 as Frontier Armed and Mounted Force (FA&MF), name changed to Cape Mounted Riflemen 1878.

There is a snippet about them on The South African Military History Society site.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Martin.

Thanks fellas. Just read that they won 3 VCs during the AZW, so they must have been in the thick of some of the action.

Hi Tasker224

I am willing to be corrected on this,

Quote :

Do you mean - Moirosi's Mountain campaign in Basutoland.

Hi 90th

More than happy be to corrected -

Moirosi's Mountain campaign was during the Zulu War (but as a separate campaign) -

Sekukuni Campaign was after the Zulu War.

Hi Graves1879.
The Medal for the Sekukuni campaign was the same Medal as issued for the AZW , I think it took place on two ocassions
the first time it was abandoned and was launched by Rowlands column ? . Then he I think launched another campaign in
Nov ? . Morosi's mtn also had two campaigns I think one was in June 79 ? ( Failure ) Not sure of the other ? . As Tasker said they
the CMR were awarded 3 VC's during the zulu war so I was trying to differentiate between the campaigns . Hope this makes sense ?
:lol!: :lol!: :lol!: .
cheers 90th. Idea

This particular medal is to a soldier awarded the 1877-8-9 clasp, so it is not unlikely that he would have seen a lot of action in all these campaigns, alongside the 3 VC winners.
Makes it a very desirable medal to look after in one's collection imo.
