Subject: But what uniform they wore? Fri Feb 10, 2012 7:35 am
Hi all
During the two invasions of Zululand, it seems that there were in each column, separated people, who came from regiments that were not even in south africa!
But what uniform they wore?
Cheers

Hi Gary of Australia
When their regiment was in South Africa, although it is not engaged in the Zulu war, they keep their uniforms.
But if they come from a regiment that is on another continent?

Hi Pascal. A friend has contacted me and gave me the following information regarding your question . '' For the most part soldiers serving with differant units on a temporary basis - ie. Not permanently transferred - would have worn their original uniforms . Officers certainly did - although most adopted patrol jackets anyway - but men in the mounted infantry , for example , wore the uniform jackets of their original infantry units '' . cheers 90th .

I think they worn just about anything they wanted to and, not just the ones in question. I'm very sure the hat worn by Durnford wasn't army issue.
