Hi All
Frederick Machin was born in Gloucester 1842/3 he attested at Sheffield aged 22, on September 28 1864, He was attested for 10 years in the 80th Regt and given number 918.
He was a Private from 29 sept 1864 to 30 june 1865, Corporal to 26 march 1870, Sgt to 14 oct 1875, Col-Sgt to 8 feb 1881, Sgt-Maj to 30 june 1881, Sgt-Maj Warrant Officer to 11 sept 1883 Warrant Officer to 28 sept 1892.
He Re-engaged to complete 21 years at Belfast on 29 may 1871
He was transferred to the 3rd Batt South Staffs 7 sept 1883, becoming Staff Paymaster 38 and 64 regimental districts.
He served at home to 11 jan 1872, Straits Settlements 12 jan 1872 to 27 dec 1872, china 28 dec 1872 to 10 nov 1875, straits settlements 11 nov 1875 to 26 jan 1877, cape of good hope 27 jan 1877 to 11 may 1880, home 12 may 1880 to 28 sept 1892.
He retired 28 sept 1892 reaching the age of retirement having served 28 years aged 50.
Some places he served at, Buttevant ireland, chatham devonport, portland, aldershot, fleetwood, all england, birr, armagh, belfast ireland, HMTS orontes, singapore, penang, hong kong, perak, singapore, HMTS orontes, durban, newcastle natal, utrecht, derby, luneberg all south africa, dublin, tralee ireland, school of Musketry, lichfield.

Married Mary Ramsey in Bradford 12 April 1882
1891 census Army Warrant Officer whittington Heath Barracks Staffordshire, Mary b.c 1860, children frederick james 8 b.ireland, Lilly 6, Florence 5, Violet Victoria 3, Gilbert Percy 1, all born Lichfield.
1901 census two more children Maude E b.1892 lichfield, Constance b.1895 Tettenhall Staffs Address 5 webb street, Sedgley Dudley Staffs, He was a widow.
Mary died july/sept 1899 Dudley District
Frederick died jan/march 1917 Dudley District.
