Hi All . What a load of hogwash ! . I'm surprised no-one has sent them a couple of questions ! . Read the sales pitch below and you will understand what I mean . I've NEVER HEARD of this company / regt . . As being in the heavy fighting of 1879 !!!!!. Does anyone know of this force / corps . ?????. Also the price , dont get me started . I cant believe someone would ever / even think of paying that amount of money , I had a quick look and the engraving doesnt look right either . The unit isnt in the Forsyth medal roll but I'll check all of them for Slabbert's name . http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/EXTREMELY-SCARCE-1879-BRITISH-ZULU-WAR-SOUTH-AFRICA-MEDAL-COLONIAL-VOLUNTEER-/350575329672?pt=AU_Militaria&hash=item519feb0188 cheers 90th.

Well I've just spent 45 min thumbing through all the Colonial Regt's in the Forsyth Roll - no Slabbert in any of the Units . Wonder if the listing will be removed Hopefully I didnt miss him . . Will be interesting to see what 1879Graves has to say on this matter . Cheers 90th.

Feedback shows to be a reputable dealer. No Qs or As shown, but seller seems to know about this unit and its history: "This very scarce original British Zulu War campaign medal was awarded to a Colonial soldier of the famous SCOUT COMPANY, one of the finest and toughest Regiments that fought for the British Army at the time was engaged in very heavy combat in 1879." Not an expert on colonial units but I know a little about medals; and this one looks renamed. Note the file marks on the rim. Naming looks non-contemporary also.

| Well done LH and yes. You have the DNW auction catalogue here from 28th March 2012. This was lot 121 and its description reads:
"South Africa 1877-79, 1 clasp, 1879 (491 Tpr. H. J. L. Slabbert, Scouts Coy.) renamed, edge bruising, some contact marks, very fine £100-140."
Hammered at £170

Hi Tasker . I dont think the dealer is of poor repute but I've followed the medals he's listed and some facts that are unknown are stated as facts !. Unreputable is a too strong a term but fanciful may be more to the point !. What scout unit had heavy fighting in 1879 and was known as a Colonial Scout Unit ?? , Please ...........!!!!!!. Also their medals are way overpriced , but I suppose people if they want something enough and believe what they read they will pay eventually . . In regard to '' The Colonial Scout / Scouts unit it doesnt feature in any medal roll as I've previously stated . Cheers 90th. PS. DNW has said and done the right thing , so if this seller doesnt , it means either he's hiding that fact or in reality doesnt have any idea , I'll go with the Former unfortunately . Call me a doubting thomas but thats how I see it .

Hi 90th, thanks for that. Please note I didn't actually write that this dealer was of poor repute, quite the opposite according to his feedback. I would challenge him on the points made above by asking him a question about this item via ebay, but as LH says, he MUST be aware already, so he already knows, so why ask?

Hi Tasker '' Feedback shows him to be a reputable dealer '' I was merely refering to this comment of yours by implying that I think - '' He '' isnt / wasnt a fully reputable dealer in my mind . Hope you understand what I'm trying to say ? . It was not a reflection on your comment , as I'm aware you didnt suggest he was unreputable . Hopefully you saved much coin while you were away ? . Could be a couple of Medals heading your way ? . . Seriously , again welcome back . Cheers 90th.

I emailed the seller Elitemilitaria of Australia about item 350577846592, the reply i got was that they thought it was not re-named but not 100% sure, and would contact the ebay member they bought it off, i saw this medal listed on UK ebay at least 3 times before it sold, I have to admit they do a very good presentation of they listings, but medals are greatly overpriced, but you are going to find new collectors or gullible people with too much money to spend, i have seen re-named medals listed on ebay many times listed as correctly named. I notice the listing is private, something to hide???????
