1502 Sergt J Nokes 2-24 Clasp 1877-8 B Company connection

on further research this is a bit more interesting

according to the Noble 24th John Nokes was a hospital sergeant. He is named Noakes on the Muster Roll. He transferred from B to F company at Rorke's Drift 4/2/1879 (Orders Book - Rorkes Drift Regimental Archive. Disembarked England 31/3/1879 . Awarded a LS&GC 1/11/1882

i have pulled up his service records he left for England 11/1/1879 _ so missed his chance at fame and glory. Interesting that the auction write up doesnt say that but leaves the rorkes drift bit in - I daresay it will add value.

But given we have senn drafts to the 1/24th up at a £1000 - I would have thought someone who served with and new the heroes of Rorkes Drift should command a similar price. Be interested to see wether the hammer price reflects this or the implied RD connection.
