Or were, ,the waterproofed black canvas valise and the rolled grey greatcoat usualy in a black container and the mess- tins of the men of the the 2/24 th Foot during the Battle of RD ?

If it was raining. Would have been put inside for obvious reasons. And this would apply to all the other battles you have mentioned in other posts on the same subject.

I ask this Because I do not have much confidence in the illustrators ...

Example in the warrior in 83, christa hook showing soldiers of the 2/21st at the battle of Ulundi, with all their equipment on the back ...
