Zulu Dawn:“Excuse me, my Lord, there's something I must convey to you. I rode along the track down to Rorke's Drift. The sky above is red with fire. Your orders my Lord? Do we move to the drift?”

Were the coats lined. And would they have kept the owner warm, if needed. I was looking at a red jacket at an antiques fair, the jacket was Pre Zulu War. The lining appeared to be made of what looked like and old sack. Was this the case for the Zulu War Soliders.

The five button foreign service tunic was not a heavy serge material, If you want to see an original tunic the Staffordshire Regimental Museum at Whittington Nr Lichfield has an original tunic worn at Ulundi by a Sergeant of the 80th Foot. The fabric is a very open weave and lining is cotton.
