| hi Dave . This is the spiel from the inside cover . A wealth of post - combat material is available , to give those readers who will never have the chance to visit zululand a unique opportunity to sample the atmosphere of these evocative locations , for those who are able to explore the sites today The zulu war then and now will provide an essential guide and companion. All the battles , from the most famous R.Drift and Isandlwana , to the lesser known such as Gingindlovu and Hlobane , are given the " Then and now " treatment , bringing to life what might appear at first glance to be just the dusty pages of history. Many graphic eye - witness accounts from both zulu warriors and British Redcoats convey exactly what it was like to give battle in the 1870"s , when many of the clashes were nightmarish hand - to - hand struggles between the assagai and bayonet . Additional chapters cover what remains to be seen today, both on the battlefields and in museums , the lonely and sometimes unmarked and forgotten graves of their participants , the British Forts and their ruins , plus accounts of those film productions that have since been made of the 1879 war . Then and Now is a must for both students of the conflict and everyone remotely interested in British Military History. Dave in my opinion if you can get it for less than 18 quid you have an absolute bargain . but , be careful it is heavy. and postage may kill you . cheers 90th. |
