This is from the title page of "Perils in the Transvaal and Zululand" by Adams. I rather like it, and I assume it is where Julian got his title for his book. But who is it by? Kipling? Come on you bibliophiles!

well i'm confused, by coincidence i re read Perils in the Transvaal.. by The Rev H.C. Addam's only a couple of weeks ago, essentially a children's story about a character called George River's and his chum redgy.
have i missed a book? by White? Julian? xhosa

senior moment, yes i have them all the time,and mainly on here. yes, the title page, ive googled that a few times before, copious out pouring's from the victorian's, especially on R.D. and Isandhlwana. but cant pin that down. xhosa

Hmm. Could be Adams himself of course. He published a book of poems in 1859 - not military, but similar style. Still, its strange that "England's Sons" should come up. Thought the illustrations were quite good. Steve

see what i mean about how slow i am, i did not even ' get ' the ref to England's Son's, my excuse, modern life, one son arguing with another, wife dripping peal's of wisdom in my ear's, dog demanding my attention ect, dont tell Julian. cheers Les
