Subject: Zulu Shield or Flowers. Fri Aug 07, 2009 10:36 pm
Hi all. I have just been browsing the RDVC Forum. And a member has stated that he will be leaving a small Zulu Shield on one of the defenders graves (Henry Hook’s) instead of flowers. And he is asking if this would be disrespectful.
What do you think? !!!!
Disrespectful? Or tribute.

The Zulu Shield represents the Brave Warriors that died for their country in the Zulu War of 1879.
The person who wishes to place a Zulu shield, on defenders grave, should first seek permission from living descendants. Where possible.

I think Hook saw more than his fair share of Zulu shields in his life time. Why the hell would he want one on his grave.

Very Good Point John. However I'm sure Hook would know it was for the right reasons. Not out of disrepect.

hi all, Reading a bit about good old hookey i think he would appreciate the shield gesture, he always maintained what a proud and noble race the zulu were, and he never questioned their bravery, all the british troops had nothing but admiration for the bravery of the zulu warrior. Just not keen on the disembowling or braining thing !. Who could blame them.
cheers 90th.

Sas1. Look at this way. In the topic Lincoln Cathedral posted by 24th The 8oth have a memorial showing five Zulu Shields. So I’m sure Hook would be more than happy to have one.
