| I'm completely taken up with work and Christmas events from now until sometime around 2nd January so won't be on the forum. I'd like (not too early I hope) to wish everyone a very Happy Christmas. The forum has been very enjoyable of late with very many interesting and original contributions and I feel has been inspirational at times. Not always of course - you have to take the rough with the smooth - but it is a valuable piece in the jigsaw of Zulu war history which is helping to complete the whole picture. So thank you to you all. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. |

| (24th Foot of course) Not quite, if this is supposed to be c1745, then the regiment was not numbered the 24th foot at that time. In 1745 the regiment would have had its Colonels name for its title, it only became the 24th regiment of foot in 1751, having been deemed the 24th in the infantry order of precedence since 1747. The title (24th regiment of foot), only lasted for 31 years, as in 1782 the regiment became the 24th (2nd Warwickshire) regiment of foot, an English county title that the regiment proudly held for almost 100 years and carried on its colours during the AZW. Here endeth the history lesson Wishing all a very merry Christmas and a happy new year. |

| Ah home again, farewell to the land of the Angels in white, even though the head angel is an intruder from the netherworld. A would wish everyone on the forum a Merry Merry Xmas and in particular our long suffering admin. Pete you showed a lot of 'balls' getting this site up and running, and even bigger ones in putting up with the tantrums, zelous debate and hard comment. All of those are attributes that force conversation and response and entertain, amuse and educate. The fact that some incredible positions are so rigorously held is a wonderful thing ( Martin there were Welsh men at RD ) Chelmsford the scape goat you have stayed wonderfully true to your beliefs and for that I applaud you. Xhosa probably the biggest book collection in history and the wonderful belief that its all encapsulated in one volume. 90th my Aussie buddy and supporter of the second best cricket team in the world it was great actually talking to you, and a source of great joy that you managed to get of your butt and do your trip of a life time. For all the rest of the contributors, John impi Brendan Chard etc, keep on asking the key questions without them the debates would end. Julian your help and assistance through the year has been of immense value as has the very underated Frederic. Those fundis and amazing reserchers, Littlehand, Graves, you continue to amaze with how you do it. For Mr G Old Historian and for all the others ive forgotten, thank you for being part of the circle. And to the close on 2000 members that listen, watch and wait. Start to participate, it really is a lot of fun. Ive enjoyed yet another year of baiting, taking the mickey, and hopefully fanning ( throwing petrol on) the fires of debate. So to all my friends Have a great holiday, see you in 2015.
Regards
Frank |

| Hi Springy mate, glad you are back home and I hope that all is ok with you. Buddy, I have never once said that there were no welshmen at RD, I do know that there were at least 14 of them there, and even maybe a couple more, but they were vastly outnumbered by the Englishmen in the regiment. I have no gripe with the welsh in general, my gripe is with how they have turned things around to make it appear that the regiment was all welsh (with some foreigners from England), stolen the honour and glory from the mainly Englishmen and their regiment, the 24th (2nd Warwickshire) regiment, and given it to themselves and to a regiment (swb) that did not even exist during the AZW. There have been films, doco's, books, articles, even regimental write ups quoting the welsh and the swb, giving them the glory rather than the actual men and regiment that the credit really belongs to. They appear to be trying to alter history by conning the gullible general public into believing that the regiment was welsh with nearly all welshmen, and that it was called the swb. Knowing that this is totally false, I feel that it is every Englishmans moral duty to correct this mythical hoax created by these welsh glory grabbers, and give back the honour to the mainly Englishmen and their regiment, the 24th (2nd Warwickshire) regiment. You just love winding me up about this don't you you absolute stinker Anyway my friend, I hope that you will have a great time over Christmas and the new year, and I also hope that you will be feeling a lot better very soon. Keep safe buddy. |

Frank Thank you kind Sir.. I remember the days well, when we would debate our good friend Col Durnford. It was good then, not like now with the sub-normal knowledge some members when it comes to Durnford. Their limited to the holding the gates, and a Brave man with a heart. You have a Great Christmas and New year. |
