| I thought that members of the forum may like to know of this event.
The weekend of Friday 26th to Sunday 28th June 2015 will see Brecon`s Regimental Museum of The Royal Welsh host one of Britain`s finest re-enactment groups, The Diehard Company!
The Diehards are joining us to re-create an army camp from the 1879 Zulu War. Authentic uniforms, equipment and weapons will be used to demonstrate the life of a soldier during this period. Visitors are going to be able to see original examples of the iconic Martini Henry rifle being fired, as well as participating in talks on the weapons used by Zulu Warriors. All are welcome, but there will be a special opportunity for children to join Queen Victoria`s army!
The Diehard`s camp is to be based on Brecon Rugby Club`s main pitch for the weekend and all events are free. Some of the demonstrations will also take place at the Museum, as the locations are only a few minutes` walk from each other. Events are scheduled to begin at 11am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and continue at regular intervals throughout the day.
I hope you can join us during the weekend. |

| 90th, You could not be more wrong... I'm out with Ethan Edwards & Old Mose Harper looking for the Nawyecka Comanches who have taken Ethan's niece Debbie. I don't see them I'm hoping to chance upon Captain Nathan Brittles or Lieutenant-Colonel Kirby Yorke... Get it yet? JY |

| Hi John Y.
Well, it sounds like you will be in the U.S of A, maybe you will get to smoke a pipe along with the old chief and Nathan Brittles, LOL.
Have you ever been to visit Little Round Top, where Colonel Joshua Chamberlain and the 20th Maine held the flank against all odds against the Reb's at Gettysburg John?
Along with iSandlwana and RD, that is another battlefield I would really like to visit.
Safe trip mate.

| I've watched a couple of clips of the Diehards, they seem like a nice bunch and all very well informed. I'm going to do my best to be there.

| I wish I could be there, but being in Texas, it is a bit far to go. you know, Nathan was supposed to be chasing the "Commanch" in Texas, but John Ford decided Monument Valley in Utah looked more like Texas than Texas did. As far as Gettysburg goes, it is a fascinating and a awe inspiring place worth going. But maybe I am a bit biased. I am related to Brig-General James Johnson Pettigrew (CSA) who was in Pickett's charge and mortally wounded. |

| I took this in Monument Valley a while back.Boy did it rain. Expected Nathan and the Commanch around every corner. No Commanch but plenty of Navajo. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Steve |

| Hello diancast.
Although it is known as Pickett's charge, Pickett himself did not lead it and did not take part in it. Your relation was on the left flank in the charge against the Union forces at Cemetary Ridge, Gettysburg, where he was wounded in the hand. After the defeat at Gettysburg the confederates retreated back to cross the Potomac, and in a rear guard action James was shot in the stomach on the 14th July. The brave James Pettigrew refused to remain and be captured, he was taken to Bunker Hill where he died on the 17th July.
The battle of Gettysburg was a big turning point in the civil war, and was a close run thing, and if it had not been for the quick thinking of Union General Gouvernour Warren, who spotted the weakness on the Union flank at Little Round Top, and the very brave defence of LRT made by Col Joshua Chamberlain and the men of the 20th Maine, who ran out of ammo and made a very gallant bayonet charge to force the reb's to do a quick retreat or surrender, then Gettysburg just might have been a victory for Gen Lee.
You are very lucky to be able to visit Gettysburg, I would dearly love to go there and pay my respects to the very brave men of both sides. I believe that the Gettysburg park rangers do a wonderful job escorting visitors to the various parts of the battlefield, I should think that it is an awe inspiring and very moving experience.
Best wishes.
