Graves,
J. C. Pearson was a Civil Surgeon who is listed on the Medal Roll as entitled to the South Africa Medal with the 1877 clasp. (page 1651 if you have the medal roll on file that was passed around several years ago.)
Pearson is also on the Forsyth Medal Roll as entitled to the South Africa Medal with 1877 clasp. (page 230 of Forsyth's book.)

Hi Tom
Many thanks for the information. Do you know if he took part in the Zulu War of 1879 but did not cross into Zululand, that's why he only has the 1877 Clasp?

Graves,
I really don't know. On the medal roll, under the column heading "whether engaged against the Zulus in 1879" there is a "No" next to his name, but that only means he did not cross into Zululand.
