Ultimatum Tree

Has anyone got a photo of the original Ultimatum tree before that storm destroyed it I am guessing there is not many around

I know it looked slightly better when saw it in September 1991.

I have a number of transparencies that Ken Griffith had done whilst filming Black as Hell, Thick as Grass, it is feasible there might be a shot of the Ultimatum Tree amongst them.

I do have a number of 1879 images that include the tree, when the hawser of the pont used there was secured to it.

Then that would mean a new tree was planted there some time after 1991.

I haven't been down there since they put the Freeway through so couldn't comment on whats there now. Gary is probably the best bet.

I have found some of Ken’s slides, but not all of them. There is a great shot of the Ultimatum Tree in Black as Hell, Thick as Grass.

I’m trying find where Mrs Young has hidden the other slides, I have found some but nothing down the Tugela as yet.

It is that second one I hope to find.

I was looking for the slides and found a photograph of Walter Dunne, that I hadn’t seen for some while, filed inside some totally irrelevant papers, now I know I would have put it there...
