Lieutenant Jahleel Brenton Carey, 98th (The Prince of Wales’) Regiment of Foot, was he wearing a Blue or Red jacket on the day that the Prince Imperial was killed?
This is only my opinion and my thoughts, but very willing to hear other members views.
I am going for a Red Jacket and this is my reasons.
The following are only artist impressions but where did the information come from.
The first painting is by Olivier Pichat and Lieutenant Carey is wearing Red.
The third is by a unknown artist by me but shows Lieutenant Carey reporting the death of the Prince, wearing Red. (I know he is in a Patrol Jacket and it should be Blue).
The other piece of evidence I have is a Newspaper Report from Leicester Chronicle 23 August 1879, stating that Lieutenat Carey was wearing a Red Patrol Jacket.

Hi,
I remember this being debated here before (and on other sites) - I think JY (?) said that it was more than possible being as his kit was lost at sea, he had to beg a tunic from a fellow officer.
The artist Pichat had a long associated with the Princess E and Louis N, so I feel (and its only my feeling) that he had 'inside' info or information from a very good source.
