Private William Samuel Clark, 1st (King’s) Dragoon Guards.
John Young Collection.

William Clark served in the detail of the 1st (King’s) Dragoon Guards which visited the battlefield of iSandlwana.

He remained in South Africa as part of the squadron which served in the 1st Boer War.  During that campaign he was appointed to Lance-Corporal.  He was dangerously wounded at the Battle of Laing’s Nek on 28th January 1881.

He was subsequently invalided out the army.

Andy,

Excellent stuff.  Interesting that his service record neglects to mention his appointment to Lance-Corporal, although that appointment does appear in the casualty return for Laing’s Nek in The London Gazette.

Also interesting that he took his discharge in PMB, as he left an account stating he revisited iSandlwana ‘two or three years’ after the battle.
