Imperial1,
Given that Trooper 296 M. Prendergast died at Hlobane whilst serving with the Frontier Light Horse, and that Private 1243 M. Prendergast served with the 99th (Duke of Edinburgh's) Regiment, I think we can safely assume that they are not one and the same person.
I can verify that fact later by checking the submission of the 99th's Medal Roll, but I just off out.

Hi,
1243 Pte. Michael Prendergast was listed in WO 100/47 as still serving in with the Regiment in Bermuda in September 1880. So not the same man as the Hlobane casualty.
All the best, Lee

Thank you, Great information. I thought they could have been the same due to the names and same time served and thought that he may have transferred to the light horse. Sad about Trooper Prendergast passing but who would think after all this time both would be remembered and not forgotten . Again thank you. Regards Imperial1
