Lieutenant John Chard: What's our strength? Lieutenant Gonville Bromhead: Seven officers including surgeon, commissaries and so on; Adendorff now I suppose; wounded and sick 36, fit for duty 97 and about 40 native levies. Not much of an army for you.

Mr Edward Dennis Empty
PostSubject: Mr Edward Dennis   Mr Edward Dennis EmptySat Jul 02, 2022 2:57 pm

"The loyal toasts were submitted from the chair and heartily received. Mr. H. B. Ashton proposed The Army, Navy, and Reserve Forces in appropriate terms, coupled with the name of Mr. Edward Dennis. Mr. Dennis, in replying, said was wondering why his name was coupled with the toast, but he was once in the Yeomanry, he went through the Zulu war, and remarked that whenever called upon Englishmen were always to the front, and had never yet been known to fall back. (Hear, hear.)
