| Hi Kate
Yes he did take part in the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879.
William Edward Langham, an 18 year old man, enlisted for the 2nd Bn. of the 4th Foot at the Liverpool district on the 2nd of September 1874 and joins the Battalion at Cork four days later where he is numbered as 11th Brigade 291. Langham serves with the Regiment throughout the Zulu war, the 2/4th mostly being involved in garrison duty, but being present at the final battles of the campaign. Plainly on a 5 year engagement in the colours, the army are rather tardy in allowing Langham to leave South Africa and proceed to England for discharge, only being sent to the General Depot for discharge on the 2nd of February 1880. |
