Private Thomas Hayward, Royal Marine Light Infantry, served aboard the Troopship HMS Orontes during the Zulu War. Orontes was the ship that took the body of the Prince Imperial back to England. Hayward is confirmed on the Medal Roll as entitled to the South Africa Medal without clasp.

Private Thomas Hayward of the Royal Marine Light Infantry, Portsmouth Division served aboard HMS Orontes during the Zulu War.  "Orontes" transported the body of the Prince Imperial from Simon's Bay to Portsmouth, England.
