"Captain. Dowding, T.W. Commanded the Royal Marines at the action of Nyezane; formed part of the garrison of Eshowe; afterwards joined Crealock’s Div. and advanced to Port Durnford (mentioned in despatches.) admiralty, November 18th, 1879. - Royal Marine Forces. - The Lords Commissioners o f the Admiralty have been pleased to promote Lieutenant T.W. Dowding, Royal Marine Light Infantry, to the rank of Cap tain, under the provisions of Section 6 o f Her Majesty’s Order in Council of January 15th, 1878, in special recognition of the services performed by him during the recent campaign in South Africa."
