What part if any did he play in the Anglo Zulu war?

Plot Con C Grave 293 Block 40. St Woolas Cemetery Newport.
Captain James PENDERY. 2nd Volunteer Battalion, South Wales Borderers. Died 5 July 1896 aged 55.
Buried 9 July 1896.

The article states he started his military career with the South Staffordshire regiment as a bugle boy and served throughout the Crimean campaign. Ending his 40 year career in the 2nd Volunteer battalion S.W.B ending up Quartermaster.
It states he has four medals, Crimea, Indian mutiny, South Africa, long service.
