Parliament in March 1879.

The war office has had no end of letters on the subject of the use of balloons in modern warfare.
Had a contingent of accomplished Aeronauts accompanied our advance in Kaffirland, might not the great catastrophy to some extent have been avoided????????

Flintshire Observer Fri 28th March 1879.

To anyone's knowledge were any balloons used later in the Anglo Zulu war or Boar war ?

Eddie,

A small unmanned balloon was created during the Siege of Eshowe to bounce the heliograph signals.  Other than that there was no other use of balloons.

During the 2nd Boer War Royal Engineers Balloon Companies were involved for the purpose of reconnaissance.

During his 1885 Bechuanaland Expedition, Charles Warren, R.E., made use of a balloon.

Thank you John.

I was just wondering as it was debated in parliament.
