N/t in Duttons in the AHC list though there is a Lieutanant of Orderlies F McGreal 1879 clasp which is similar

Hi All,
John Frederick McCrea born 2 April 1854 India, Died 16 July 1894 At Kokstad S Africa and is buried in Kokstad Cemetery. He was serving as a surgeon in the 1St Cape Mounted Yeomanry when he received the Victoria Cross during the 1880-1881 Basuto War. His wife Elizabeth died 1936 and is buried in St Margaret and St Andrew Churchyard Littleham, Devon. Both Appear on the findagrave website.

Listed as a Civilian Surgeon on page 368 of MacKinnon & Shadbolt, yet does not rate a mention on Medal Roll for 1877-8-9.

Wikipedia and Memorials to Valour lists John Frederick McCrea VC as born 2 April 1854, Saint Peter Port,
Guernsey. However Littlehand 's post below states he went to live with an Aunt there.

His medal is in Lord Ashcroft's collection.

Hi Eddie and all,
I only went by what was on the findagrave write up, which states he was born in India, however the 1871 census does have him living in Guernsey, but place of birth as India again.
Interesting???????
