| Hi All
Could this be the same Sergeant James Jones:
Death Of Colonel Vaughan Hughes Chepstow
Colonel Ernest Vaughan hughes R.A. of Wyelands , Chepstow, whose death took place on Wednesday after a brief illness, was a brilliant officer of the Royal Artillery, and served with distinction in the Zulu and first Soudan wars. During the former campaign he performed a conspicuous act of bravery, when hard pressed by the Zulu in rescuing Sergeant James Jones, late Chepstow, from a perilous position. Jones's horse had stuck fast in a brook, and Colonel Vaughan-Hughes, noticing the man's difficulty caught the Sergeant under the arm, and rode off to a place of safety.

| Eddie To answer your question: there was no Sergt James Jones in the IMI, which is the only reason he'd be riding a horse. Also the Sergt Jones 1/24th was not 'late' in 1899. Perhaps the quotation is referring to another Jones of a different unit. At which action was the rescue supposed to have occurred? |
