J C Day 24th Regiment

There is a Private 1611 John Day 2/24th who was not at RD during the battle.

J C Day, whoever he is, if he was there, was probably out with Chelmsford on the 22nd and returned to RD on the morning of the 23rd

John Day enlisted 27th Oct 1864 aged 18 yrs at Westminster. On payment 1/24th Depot Companies 5th November 1864 to 31st January 1865 (1-24/1072) Transferred to 2/24th Depot Companies 1st February 1865 (2-24/1611)

Discharged 16th June 1881 after 16 years 8 months service. There has been never any doubt where he was on 22nd/23rd January 1879. Is it the newspaper that is not clear - the text does suggests that members of the 24th where there not specifically Pte Day.

Hi All,
John C Day was born 10 May 1851 his 1939 address is Longford Lane he is a widow, he dies in 1942 Gloucester Rural District. On the 1911 census he is married to Sarah with 3 kids. He was probably born in Arlington Gloucestershire.
