A bit of a challange for you Tom. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Daily Mirror - Saturday 16 December 1939 His son had just joined HMS Hood. I wonder if he was on board when it blew up?

Kate, Alfred Ernest McDowell did retire from the Royal Navy. His father, William Henry McDowell, served in the Royal Navy from 1864 to 1876 mostly as a cook or servant. His last ship was HMS Himalaya. William Henry McDowell did not serve in the navy during the Zulu War. Tom
