PostSubject: Re: Hospital Dresser Robert J Boyd Army Medical Department   Hospital Dresser Robert J Boyd Army Medical Department EmptyTue Mar 21, 2023 8:52 am

Hi All,
Well this was a very interesting person to find chasing him to the other side of the world. I do not think he was a enlisted man more likely with the Stafford House Medical Team, during the Zulu War. Robert John Boyd was Baptised 1 Jan 1856 At East Horrington Somerset. His father also Robert was born 1809 in Ireland, on the 1861 census Robert snr is Physician and Surgeon at Wells Lunatic Asylum, Robert Jnr was 5. The Asylum opened in 1848, Robert senior retired in 1867. By the 1881 census Robert Jnr is the Assitant Medical Officer at Chesterton Lunatic Asylum Cambridgeshire. The paper also states he served during the Russo-Turkish war in 1877 he would have been 21. The Stafford Committee sent staff to this conflict also. I have found his will giving his death date as 15 may 1897 age 40 married to Catherine Alma, with address 12 Glebe Rd, Glebe near Sydney Australia.
I then found a burial record for him being buried at Waverley Cemetery Bronte New South Wales, the inscription on the gravestone readsborn at Horrington Somerset 24 Oct 1855 died Sydney.
Rai Keynshamlighthorse.
