By surrender what is the reporter referring to? What is the 'Wreck' being referred to?

Hi Julian This is how the newspaper placed the article. The article before is about an avalanche in Copenhagen and the one after is about the recklessness of the government. Neither seem to be relevant to the Rider Haggard article. I'm assuming the 'surrender' refers to the debacle of the 1st Transvaal Rebellion though that doesn't seem to have anything to do with Cetshwayo [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Hull Daily Mail - Friday 11 March 1910

Peculiar! 'Surrender' doesn't seem quite the right word. Perhaps it's being used in terms of a climbdown but why men should be seen weeping and screaming, Lord knows!
