I can't find an A Garner in the 2/4th medal rolls.
The only one close is Pioneer Sergeant 1240 A Gamon

Hi All,
Alfred Garner born 1841/42 Swaffham Norfolk. Attested 27 April 1859, to 2/4th No.1240 he is the Pioneer Sgt on the Medal Roll, obviously a misprint. So Zulu War.
1861 Pvt 1240 2/4th in Corfu. 1871 index Sgt Aldershot, 1871 Census Aldershot North Camp, b.1842 Norfolk Sgt and is married, 1881 Census Scotforth Lancashire, Superintendent Militia Staff, married to Margaret born Weedon Northants. Discharged 4 July 1885 Sgt 4th Royal Lancs, 1901 census Bradford Yorkshire Club Caretaker m.Margaret born Weedon.
His Probate gives death date 7 Jan 1911 of 12 New Street Weedon Northants to Widow Margaret.
