This was a mistake - it is a freestone obelisk and with the exception of that erected to the memory of the Carbineers in the Market Square, it is the best and most finished piece of work in Natal Natal Witness 7th August 1880 The monument to Piet Uys is now fitted together and is open to public inspection in the yard of Mr Jesse Smith the builder in Commercial Road |
