Have just read a FB Post that The Rorke's Drift Hotel is no longer operating as a Hotel , to me that's very sad , have known the managers Ros and Shane for nearly 10 yrs , a very sad day for me . Here's hoping whatever they do in the future it works out well for them .

That is a complete surprise, have they given the reason ?

There is not many other places close to the battle field at fare prices

No , no reason , Brandyne said he was chatting to another Guide yesterday who told him the prices at the RD Hotel had doubled . So sad , no place there now with fair pricing , all to expensive for extended stays .

When I was there last with the Major, we stayed at Battlefields Country lodge there is quite a distance to travel but that may be the only other option.

Fugitives Lodge is expensive also

The Battlefields Lodge has changed hands, it was purchased by a local undertaker, and the prices have shot up. Apparently it is being used more as a wedding venue.

Battlefields Country lodge is around $120 overnight in

The hotel will be turned into a trade school. Its been bought by the David Rattray Foundation who have number of similar schools under their wing. Its name will be The Charles Aikenhead School for further Education and Learing

Shane and Ross are lovely people.
I have spent many a happy evening supping Milk Stout with them whilst watching an African sunset and putting the world to rights.
I hope they are okay.
That just leaves the Lodge and Fugitives for next years trip with the resultant hike in price.

Unfortunately Inks more than 50% or more like 60% of the Accommodation in Dundee has closed since Covid , and they are still closing on a weekly basis , reopening the country after Covid hasn't helped the Accommodation , yes Battlefields country Lodge is now seen as a no go place if you know what I mean since the change of hands .

What's happening to the Lodge? I had several long discussions with Dave the owner at Clash of Empires and he had big plans for the place.
Looks like I will have to bring my tent over next year if I want to sleep near the battlefields. Sad

Who knows with the Lodge it's come back from the dead several times , when I was there in May I called in a few times , they were putting in a new bar etc etc .

I did some reasearch for accommodation at fair rates

The only other option is Nqutu its close to the battlefields and the prices seem very good

Evening all, looking for help or info. I put a post on the chat for re dedication of Caleb wood and Robert tongue however seems it’s an old chat that nobody reads anymore? It seems Robert tongue is my half great grand uncle his half brother Thomas is my great grandad. Was just looking to see if anyone had anymore information on him all I have is a little book from the re dedication or maybe point me in the direction of where to look for family members? Any help or info is much appreciated. Thanks again

Well after last night I doubt it really matters who play India , they Smashed the Kiwi's and Obliterated you guys , we were much more competitive , although losing
easily in the opening game of the Tournament.....when we were poor , I think we are the only side capable of beating them ! . I went to bed last when you were 5/40 .

It was on the market but taken of. I saw Paul a few months ago taking guests around. Maybe contact them, Paul Lambet is on the 'other site' pm him.
Also dont forget Elandsheim.

Frank I could hear the fat lady warming up at 6/88 , watched Maxi avoid the Hatrick although he edged it but it failed to carry
to the Keeper , I went to bed at 6/89 , we were probably 7/91 before I got to bed , I was ruing the fact I didn't back Afghanistan at the good odds when they were 3/ 200 or so !! . I've watched the highlights after hearing we won !! , I couldn't believe it , I saw him get 120 from 50 balls or so 10 days ago , so it was obviously the same but this time on Steroids ....especially has he suffered badly from cramps and couldn't run ! , truly will never be seen again a team in that position getting up to win !! .
