Rorkes Drift Cemetery.
Author Message Dave Posts : 1604Join date : 2009-09-21 Subject: Rorkes Drift Cemetery. Mon Apr 05, 2010 3:21 pm Apart form the memorial in the cemetery there is a solitary grave. Does anyone know whom this belongs to? And was he killed during the Battle at Rorke’s Drift. If not why was he buried in the Rorkes Drift cemetery as I thought this was only for those that fell at Rorkes Drift. Apologies in advance if we have discussed this before. Dave.

Mon Apr 05, 2010 8:24 pm The only other grave within the walled off enclosure is that of a soldier who was drowned when he fell from the pontoon. This took place (I think) in 1883, during the Civil War that followed the Anglo-Zulu War. A garrison was deployed at Rorke's Drift until after pacification in 1888. Regards, Ken
