Formerly in the Royal Navy. Joined the 60th Rifles. Served in the Indian Mutiny Campaign, and was severely wounded with the loss of two fingers at Cawnpore, 27 November, 1857. Medal. Commanded a Battalion of his Regiment in the Zulu War, 1879. Assistant Quartermaster-General at Headquarters, 1880. Major-General. C.B. Aide-de-camp to H.R.H. the Duke of Cambridge, 1886-90. Retired, 1893. J.P. for Sussex. Of Abbots Leigh, Hay ward's Heath. Army and Navy Club.
