When 'Zulu' was first released, Michael Caine's accent came in for some criticism in certain quarters - mainly from people who knew how he normally spoke.

However, in one particular scene, When told of the orders from the Column, Chard says something to the effect of 'Hold our ground? What military genius thought that one up? Somebody's son and heir, who earned a commission before he learned to shave?'

Bromhead looks over his shoulder at Chard, and replies 'I rather fancy that he's nobody's son and heir now!'. If you close your eyes when he says this line, it sounds like it could have been delilvered by Laurence Olivier himself!

Try it and see.

PostSubject: Posh Michael Caine   'posh' michael caine EmptyFri Aug 20, 2010 9:19 am

I remember reading one of Caine's many autobiographies and he thought that walking about with his hands behind his back would make him appear more upper class (you can see him do this all the time). Apparently when the first rushes (is this the correct term for film clippings?) were sent back to the UK the producers sent a curt message back telling this 'unknown' actor to show his hands!!
